South Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce and Anglia Ruskin University have joined forces to host an event on 22 July 2021 to discuss how the impact of COVID-19 will reshape, and improve, the food and beverage supply chain here in Cambridge.
Adele Gritten, Business and Economic Development Manager, South Cambridgeshire District Council and Member of the Cambridge Committee of the Chamber of Commerce told us: “So many of our local SMEs have faced unprecedented challenges over the past 18 months. We want to provide practical, boots on the ground support to help our local businesses get back on their feet. We’re delighted to be a co-producer of this event and to help our local supply chains forge new connections and ideas as part of an agile and greener recovery in our region.”
The event has convened an experienced panel of buyers, suppliers and innovative thinkers that will explore themes that include:
- How can suppliers rebuild their customer base after long periods of restricted trading?
- How does the supply chain need to develop to benefit the local economy and improve sustainability?
- How will suppliers and buyers interact in an increasingly digital marketplace?
- How can technology innovate and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local and national supply chains? and,
- What will be the impact on logistics and contract length?
Jacky Sutton-Adam, Founder and Director of Cambridge Cheese Company, is enthusiastic to see footfall returning to the city and is looking forward to seeing more businesses returning to office life. She told us the pandemic had allowed their business to bring new tailored offerings to their clients, and that it’s an exciting time to be in business.
Representing another Chamber of Commerce member, Anglia Ruskin University, Dr Cristina Luca will be speaking at the event where she will be sharing ways of integrating technology and solutions servicing the food supply chain.
She said: “Shortening the supply chain will benefit equally the producers and consumers.”
This event is one of many that the Chambers of Commerce have been running throughout the last eighteen months.
Chair of the Cambridge and South Cambs Committee for the Chamber of Commerce, Faye Holland told us: “I am delighted that three of our members have collaborated to put together this workshop aimed at tackling a key issue for those companies in the food and beverage industry. It is exactly this type of initiative that we will continue to lead at in the Chamber to help our smaller businesses thrive and grow.”
Kelly Richardson, Commercial Director at Cambridge Juice Company, is excited to be joining the event: “Cambridge Juice Company are celebrating their 21st year in business, so we are looking to the future how to rebuild and comeback post-COVID-19. We welcome the discussion on the 22nd July and hope many of our peers will be able to join us!”
