On Saturday, 8 July at 7.30pm, Sing! Community Choir will be raising the roof at the Atrium Hall, Netherhall School as well as raising funds for Home-Start Cambridgeshire, which supports struggling families across Cambridgeshire. The concert promises to deliver an uplifting evening of entertainment with repertoire ranging from Frankie Valli (whose song gave the concert its name) to Whitney Houston to the Greatest Showman. Like so many other aspects of the choir, the concert’s title – Oh What a Night – was discussed and decided as a team effort by the choir leaders and members. “Our choir is very much a group effort – there is no one leader,” says Bethany Kirby, who co-founded Sing! Community Choir 11 years ago along with three other friends she had met in a university choir. This unique approach means the choir nurtures and showcases the talents of its members, with inspiring results. This concert will see 11 different choir members conducting the choir, and nine playing in the band. Other choir members will be involved in performing small-group pieces to complement the main programme. The end result promises to be an uplifting night of music and community: the perfect way to spend a summer evening! Sing! Community Choir has raised more than £12,000 for local and international charities since it was set up. For this concert, choir members voted to raise funds for the local charity Home-Start Cambridgeshire, which supports disadvantaged families across the county. Aaron Venables, Chair of Trustees for Home-Start Cambridgeshire, said: “We are delighted that Sing! Community Choir has chosen to support Home-Start Cambridgeshire. It’s a fantastic way to show support to a charity that has community at its heart, and the money raised will go directly to help families who have fallen on tough times, here in the county we all call home.”
