Songs for Summmer

20 June @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
£10 – £16
Women of Note in performance led by Chloë Allison

Women of Note, Cambridge’s long established a cappella group, presents Songs for Summer a mid-afternoon performance neatly timed to enhance the Midsummer Weekend with gentle vocal harmony.   Led by Chloë Allison, the unaccompanied singers offer an hour of music to suit a broad range of tastes.  From the joyous and uplifting Here Comes the Sun, by George Harrison of The Beatles, to Ben E. King’s evergreen Sixties Soul number, Stand By Me, to the soothing and pertinent, Peace Comes Near, by Keely Hodgson, the programme guarantees a wealth of lush melodies to carry home.

Songs for Summer takes place in Robinson College’s glorious interdenominational Chapel on Grange Road.  The stunning Brutalist architecture and awe-inspiring stained-glass windows by John Piper and Patrick Reyntiens, the artists noted for the windows of Coventry’s New Cathedral, are an added joy.  Approached via Garret Hostel Lane and the Backs, Robinson College Chapel is a pleasant ten-to-fifteen-minute walk from Cambridge city centre.  Alternatively, U1 and U2 buses provide a regular service that stops outside.  There is street parking in adjacent roads.

Come for a cool, calm respite on a midsummer’s afternoon.  We look forward to welcoming you!

There will be a retiring charity collection for the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre.
