SUMMARY:Weekly Watercolour Painting with Sunil Kalbandi
DESCRIPTION:Explore different watercolour techniques over 10 weeks. \nSunil will introduce you to watercolour painting\, including colour theory (colour wheels\, colour choices\, tints\, shades\, tones\, values\, hues) and techniques for composition and perspective. \nHe will also take you through different watercolour techniques such as washes\, gradient washes\, first wash\, second wash and highlights\, creating volumes; to make elements such as clouds look thee-dimensional\, dry strokes\, wet strokes\, splatter and texture. \nOver the ten weeks you will have plenty of time to explore and practie working with light and value\, depth and perspective\, water and reflections\, flowers and negative space and the living cityscape. \nThere will be opportunity to explore painting landscapes\, still life and possible plein air if the weather permits.

Come along to learn\, engage and play\, and discover what we can do to help conserve the fungal diversity around us. \nHighlights include: \n🍄A range of talks from expert speakers about fungi\, lichens and slime moulds. \n🔬Science outreach stall with microscopes to view fungi that live deep inside plant roots. \n🎨Mycorrhizal fungi-inspired ‘artscaping’ provided by the arts and wellbeing charity Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination. \n🌳Guided fungal forays around the Garden. \n🫟Fungi crafts and games stall plus face painting! \n\n\nProgramme of talks (Classroom)\nInformation coming soon. \nFungi art adventures (Schools’ Garden)\n1.30 – 4.00pm: Fantastical Fungi Artscaping \nInformation coming soon. \nGuided walks and stands (Main Lawn)\n10.00 – 4.00pm \nScience and games marquees\, guided walks and fungi-themed face painting. \nEnter a magical world at the Mycorrhiza Marquee\, where you can talk to scientists about fungi and mycorrhizal symbiosis\, and look at mycorrhizal root samples under a microscope. \nVisit the Games Stand for fungi-based fun and drop in any time for mushroom-themed face painting. \nGet to know the fungi growing across the Botanic Garden by going on an expert-led guided walk. Walks run for approximately one hour setting off from the Mycorrhiza Marquee and are suitable for all ages. Timings released on the day at the Mycorrhiza Marquee.

DESCRIPTION:Bridging Binaries LGBTQ+ Tours\nFrom queens\, emperors and divine beings\, to scientists\, artists and global communities\, explore the spectrum of identities that exist across time\, place and culture in Cambridge collections. \nHow do labels and categories affect the stories we choose to tell\, or how we connect with each other? How do they affect our interaction with our natural world\, and how we imagine the future? \nWith tours running across multiple museums\, our volunteer guides share their personal selection of fascinating stories about gender and sexual identity through a range of lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender and queer-related objects. \nTicket sales end 10am Friday 9 October. \n  \nBridging Binaries at the Museum of Classical Archaeology\nSame-sex desire does not need modern labels and categories in order to exist across time. \nFrom goddesses and ancient myths to powerful emperors explore the spectrum of identities that exist across time\, place and culture in amongst the statues and sculptures of the atmospheric Cast Gallery at the Museum of Classical Archaeology. \nVolunteer guides share their personal selection of fascinating stories which challenge binary approaches to gender and sexual identity through a range of lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender and queer-related objects related to Ancient Greece and Rome. \nImportant information\n\nTours will start promptly.\nPlease aim to arrive at the meeting point which will be printed on your ticket\, and listed in your booking confirmation email 5-10 mins before the advertised start time.\nTours will last approximately 45 mins and led by a volunteer guide.\nPlease note that tours will involve walking around the Museum for the duration.\nThe meeting point is at the front desk inside the Museum of Classical Archaeology’s Cast Gallery.\nPlease note tours are aimed at adults.\n\nAccessibility\n\nThe Cast Gallery is on the first floor.\nStep-free access to the Museum is available via our lift. To use the lift\, please ask at the reception on the ground floor of the Classics Faculty.\nThis event involves standing\, but we can move chairs around the gallery.
