Full list of all supermarkets and shops closed on Boxing Day

If you’re looking to restock on some festive nibbles or you’ve run out of that beloved red wine, just a few stores will be opening today.

A lot of supermarkets and shops have chosen to give their colleagues an extra day off on Boxing Day this year.

It was also reported that colleagues at Poundstretcher, Aldi, and Lego are set to receive pay rises, bonuses, or extra days off as a way to say thank you for working throughout the pandemic.

And though they closed their doors on Boxing Day last year, Asda, Homebase, and Wickes are set to be open on December 26 reported The Sun.

So you don’t get caught out, here are the stores that will be shut on Boxing Day (December 26).

Marks and Spencer

The high street giant wrote to all its workers in August telling them not to come in on December 26 to say thanks for their hard work this year.

The closures apply to all M&S stores across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Its Donington distribution centre and all of its support centres – including its customer contact centre – will also shut.

Morrisons

The grocer also announced in August that none of its 497 UK stores will open on December 26 as a reward for employees.

Last year, all Morrisons stores opened at 9 am but it was voluntary for staff to work, and those who did get double pay.

Aldi

As with every year, Aldi staff get a day off on Boxing Day.

The discount supermarket never opens on Boxing Day and that tradition will continue this year.

Its stores will reopen on Monday, December 27.

Iceland

Iceland has confirmed its supermarkets will be closed on Boxing Day this year.

The news was announced in September, giving staff plenty of time to plan their Christmas hangover routine in time for December 26.

Home Bargains

Home Bargains is set to give staff a day off on both Boxing Day and New Year’s Day this festive season.

It closed at an earlier time of 5 pm on Christmas Eve to allow its 22,000 employees to have a longer festive break.

In September, a spokesperson for the toy chain confirmed to The Sun that its stores will be closed on December 26.

This means staff will get Christmas Day and Boxing Day and will return to work on Monday, December 27.

Poundland

The nation’s biggest pound shop chain will be closing its doors today, following the same move last year.

Poundland stores will also be closed on January 1, 2022.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s supermarkets, petrol stations, and Local sites will all be shut on Boxing Day.

The decision was made “in recognition of extraordinary efforts” of staff during the pandemic.

The retailer said around 170,000 store workers will get the extra day off over Christmas.
