Heatwave to continue into next week as temperatures remain around 30C

People across the country have basked in temperatures of around 30C over the weekend as Britain has been hit by a heatwave.

Yesterday (July 17) was the hottest day of the year so far. Linton-on-Ouse in North Yorkshire recorded a high of 30.7C, while Ballywatticock, in County Down, reached 31.2°C – the hottest temperature ever recorded in Northern Ireland.

Temperatures were forecast to hit 31C in some parts of the county today, according to the Met Office, meaning that it could take the crown as the year’s hottest day.
