The Ely to Peterborough train line will be closed for repairs until the beginning of next week.
This is due to a collision between a freight train and a tractor collided yesterday (19 August).
Network Rail say the crash caused significant damage to the track, signalling equipment and the level crossing.
As a result, there will be no trains to Peterborough from Cambridge or Ely for the next three days. Those travelling north through Peterborough will also have to take an alternative route.
Repairs are expected to take at least three days to complete, as a full programme of works is needed before the line can reopen safely.
This includes removing derailed freight wagons, replacing damaged track, and repairing signalling equipment and the level crossing.
The crash happened just after 9am, at the level crossing between March and Whittlesea train stations.
The two drivers sustained minor injuries.
Network Rail head of safety for Anglia Richard Tew said: “This was a very serious incident and we are working with Rail Accident Investigation Branch to fully understand the circumstances and why this happened.
