Party ban for Cambridge students after leaving ‘vomit in shower’ and ‘faeces in bin’

A college at the University of Cambridge has issued a party ban after drunken students caused chaos. Corpus Christi College has banned all undergraduates from attending formal parties for two weeks.

In an email sent to students by Corpus’s Dean of College, Andrew Sanger, reports were raised of “singing, banging on tables, general disruption and walking through to Fellows’ rooms”. He reminded students that college rules must be followed “at all times” and that “intoxication is no excuse for breaching them”.

In a later email to Junior Common Room president Harley Summers, the Dean announced that all undergraduate students would be banned from attending the rooms for two weeks. This was due to the behaviour having been “much worse than initially reported”, reports Mirror.

The email referred specifically to “large amounts of vomit on the floor and in the shower” and “faeces on the floor and in the bin” found in the toilets. It added that there was “a smashed glass beer bottle” found in the Golden Gate area of the College.

The Dean said that the offences constituted “serious breaches of College Rules” and highlighted the fact that a cleaner had to clean up the mess as “frankly appalling”. Students must pay “£200 towards the cost of cleaning” as well as write a letter of apology to the cleaners.

Describing the aftermath of the event, he said: “Two toilets had large amounts of vomit on the floor and in the shower, one had faeces on the floor and in the bin, and there was a smashed glass beer bottle in the Golden Gate area of the college.” He continued: “This is completely unacceptable [and] the offences constitute serious breaches of college rules.”

JCR president Harley Summers called for contributions to a fund held by the College designed for such occasions, known as the “Blunder Funder”, and for those responsible to come forward and write their own letters of apology. Members of the student body are said to be fuming at the ban, with events such as a formal to raise money for breast cancer charities being cancelled as a result.

Online, students at the College pointed the finger at members of its male drinking society. It is unknown if all the students involved were a part of the organisation.
