Flourishing and blooming: Sunflower Nursery children graduate in style

Children at CHS Group’s Sunflower Nurseries in Cambridge and Cambourne were able to celebrate the end to their pre-school years in style with a graduation ceremony that included cake, gowns, balloons and graduation caps. As well as engaging in traditional cap throwing, each child received a bespoke certificate to mark their achievements during their time at nursery.

Both Sunflower Nurseries remained open during lockdown to look after the children of keyworkers whilst staying in touch with their other children who stayed at home with story time videos and songs via its Famly online software and over the past couple of months, in line with government regulations, have welcomed more children back to regular nursery care.

Sunflower Nurseries are owned and run by CHS Group, a social enterprise and charitable housing association which manages a number ofcommunity care and support services for people, young and old, across Cambridgeshire. Both nurseries welcome children between the ages of six months and five years, and have several two-year funded places for those in need of financial support.

Danielle Main, Nursery Manager, Sunflower Nursery, Cambourne, commented: “After everything that’s happened this year, we feel incredibly lucky to be able to provide a proper celebration for this year’s nursery leavers. During lockdown, all of our Sunflower team did such a good job of staying in touch with our families, and we’re enormously proud of how our little ones – and their parents! – have managed the situation. The annual graduation ceremony is always a highlight in our calendars and this year it feels particularly special to be able to have fun, and celebrate together with our little Sunflower family. We now send our little ones on their way with happy memories and our very best wishes moving forward into their first years at school!”
