Over 50 jobs will be created before Christmas after Middletons Steakhouse & Grill announced they will be opening a restaurant in Cambridge.
The growing steakhouse chain has purchased the vacant Cafe Rouge on Bridge Street and plans to begin welcoming customers from Monday December 7 – subject to Government guidelines around coronavirus.
Middletons have invested around £500,000 in the project which realises a long-awaited ambition to launch a restaurant in the city.
“We are absolutely delighted,” said Stephen Hutton, managing director of Middletons Steakhouse & Grill.
“As part of our expansion plans we’ve always wanted to come to Cambridge. It’s been our top-target city for the last six years and it’s brilliant news that we can finally open a restaurant here.”
Middletons, who opened its first restaurant just outside King’s Lynn in 2011, completed the deal on its city-centre home on Friday November 6. Cafe Rouge, closed since the first lockdown in March, confirmed it would not reopen in July when its parent company fell into administration.
Cambridge’s newest eatery has a menu that has proved popular elsewhere in the east of England and includes a range of prime steaks, a signature mixed grill, seafood and vegetarian options, along with freshly-made classic desserts.
Mr Hutton added: “We can’t wait to join Cambridge’s thriving restaurant scene.
“Our stylish casual premium steakhouse and grill will be the perfect city centre location for dining or relaxing at any time of the day. We’d like to think Middletons offers a little something for everyone and look forward to serving quality food at very reasonable prices to people of all ages and families who live in, or are visiting, Cambridge.”
The restaurant has a capacity of around 100 guests, allowing for social distancing, and will celebrate its arrival in Cambridge by offering 50% off food for its first week of soft-openings.
